04/12/2015 - 10U GOLD WINS STAGE 2 OF ASA TEXAS CHALLENGE

With the threat of impending rain on Sunday, the tournament director thought it would be a good idea to get the entire tournament finished in one day.  After finishing pool play with a 4-0 record and outscoring our opponents 62-1, the Gold team earned the #1 seed in the Texas ASA Challenge Series Stage 2 tourney in Killeen, TX.  With the #1 seed came a first round bye in the single elimination bracket.  In the quarterfinal matchup, which began at 1:00am, Waco Heat ’04 was quickly cooled off, falling to our mighty Hotshots, 11-2.  Next up in the semis were Texas Shock ‘04, an outstanding ball club from Dallas.  Our girls continued their domination, beating Shock 17-1.  As was the case in the previous five games, from the first pitch, there was no doubt what the outcome of this game would be.  To cap off the tourney, our ladies faced Tennessee Fury ’04.  The same Tennessee Fury that we beat twice in Birmingham at Turf Wars 2015.  Fury was no doubt feeling good after knocking off Texas Chaos in the semifinals, but like everyone else before them, they were no match for the 13 remarkable athletes from the 10U Gold squad.  The championship game ended at 5:30am, with a final score of 4-0.  Our girls finished the tourney 7-0, outscoring our opponents 94-4.  Texas ASA Challenge Series Stage 2 champions!  With only one stage left to go in the series, our Gold team has the overall series lead.  The series winner gets championship rings and a berth in the 2015 ASA Nationals in Normal, Illinois.  The coaching staff is incredibly proud of these amazing, dedicated ballplayers!  IT’S OUR TIME…

  03/08/2015 - 10U GOLD WINS TURF WARS 2015

One by one, each player checked into the team hotel Friday evening in Birmingham.  You could tell these athletes were focused, that they were there on a business trip.  The team had a crisp workout at a local indoor facility that night, getting their minds and bodies ready for the task at hand over the weekend.  These girls are always focused and always carry themselves in amazing fashion, but you could tell there was a different look in their eyes.  You could tell that they were on a mission.  The only thing standing in their way was 25 teams from 14 different states.

Our one and only pool game was a 6-4 win on Saturday morning over the Alabama Twisters ’04.  The girls used this game to get used to the playing conditions and to get ready to roll in bracket play.  First up in bracket play was the East Cobb County Bullets ’04.  The pitching and defense were outstanding, leading to a convincing 5-0 victory over a very good team from the suburbs of Atlanta.  2-0 on the day and gaining momentum.  Next up in bracket play were the vaunted Birmingham Thunderbolts ’04.  Widely regarded as one of the premiere organizations in all of the country, our girls overcame an early 4-0 deficit to win 6-4.  3-0 on the day and ready to finish strong.  The last game of the day was an impressive 8-3 victory over the Indiana Gators ’04.  The Gators are the #1 ranked 10U team in the state of Indiana, but were ultimately no match for our Hotshots.  The girls from Indiana have never seen speed like they did that game as our girls racked up 7 stolen bases.  4-0 on the day and really starting to believe that it was their tournament to lose, our girls had all the confidence in the world heading into Championship Sunday.

Only four teams were left in the winner’s bracket.  Our quarterfinal matchup was against a familiar foe, Texas Stealth ’04.  As expected, this was a close battle, with our girls prevailing 1-0.  The pitching and defense were out of this world and we needed every bit of it as we were only able to scratch across one run in the 2nd inning.  5-0 so far in the tourney, headed to the semifinals and ready for their biggest challenge yet.  Coming into the tourney it was pretty well known that Tennessee Fury ’04 was the team to beat.  This unit based out of Chattanooga, Tennessee boasts an impressive record and girls from four different states on their roster.  They are the #1 ranked team in Tennessee and the #1 ranked team in the entire Southeast.  They had steam rolled their way to the semifinals, with their closest game being a 9-0 victory.  They were ready, we were ready.  This clash of the heavyweights did not disappoint.  This back and forth game was not for the faint of heart.  After racing out to a 4-0 lead, Fury ’04 tied it up as time expired and forced the game to ITB’s, tied at 4.  Both teams went quietly in the 6th before our girls scored 2 in the 7th and held on for a gut-wrenching 6-5 victory.  Ice water in these girls’ veins.  This 2:15 marathon was an instant classic.  Our girls were 6-0 for the tournament and were one game away from the ultimate prize.  Thankfully our girls had a chance to catch their breath as they secured a birth in the championship game.  Fury ’04 quickly dispatched DirecTV Genies Elite ‘04 and set the stage for the rematch, this time for all of the marbles.  There was never a doubt who was going to win this game as our girls cruised to a 5-0 victory.  Watching the girls count down the final 10 seconds of the game and storm out of the dugout onto the field was something these young athletes will never forget.  7-0 for the tourney.  A perfect weekend.  Trophies and medals will collect dust, or get lost or broken, but the memories these 11 sisters made in Alabama will last a lifetime.  A special shout out to these 11 amazing, athletic, inspirational young ladies as they made their coaches, parents, grandparents, siblings and all of Hotshot Nation proud!!!  IT’S OUR TIME.

01/24/2015 - 10U Gold Finishes in 2nd Place at Texas Fall State

The Diamond Sports Hotshots 10U Gold squad capped off a great weekend by finishing in 2nd place at the USFA Texas Fall State tournament at Lindsey Lyons Sports Park in Humble, Texas this past weekend.  Originally scheduled for November 2014, this huge tournament was the first opportunity the revamped Gold team had to take the field this season.  The team went 3-0 on Saturday as pitching and defense ruled the day.  A 3-2 victory over Texas Turn 2 started the day, followed by an impressive 7-3 win over South Texas Venom, a talented group from the Rio Grande Valley.  Saturday night’s gut check 3-2 victory over the vaunted Texas Bombers was a perfect ending to a perfect day.  Sunday started off slowly with a heart breaking loss to Texas Shock in ITB’s, 5-4.  To say that was a wakeup call is an understatement.  The Gold team went on to win its next three games 9-4, 13-3 and 10-3 over DirecTV Genies Elite, Texas Turn 2 and Texas Shock respectively.  This set up what many thought was a foregone conclusion, Hotshots Gold vs. Texas Chaos in the championship game.  Chaos came out hot and unfortunately our ladies were unable to respond, losing 6-1.  Overall it was a great weekend, and as always, our coaching staff is extremely proud of this talented group of young athletes.

Diamond Sports Hotshots Gold 10U Steamroll Competition In 12th Annual Harvest Bash

The scene was set for a successful weekend at Dyess Park in Cypress as our 10U Gold squad finished off an undefeated weekend by beating the Katy Cruisers ’04 Gold team 3-0 in the championship game.  Lead by stellar pitching and defense, timely hitting and aggressive base running, our 10U Gold team finished off bracket play with a 5-0 record, outscoring our opponents 31-2 along the way.  The championship was the second for the team this fall season.  Next up for our girls is the Texas Fall State tournament at Lindsay Lyons Park in Humble, November 21-23.  As always, the coaching staff is very proud of these young athletes.  GO HOTSHOTS!!!

  04/25/2014 - Blazing a Trail

Bravos Valley Blaze was never able to get over the hump and get over its troubles against 10U Woodlands Hotshots on Friday, as Bravos Valley Blaze fell 2-1 after falling behind by two runs in the third inning.
